TaitDesign®, is a Manhattan-based communications design consulting firm specializing in criteria-based rebranding, brand standards and guidelines, shareholder and financial reports, informational publications and visual communications tools.
Services include visual audit and evaluations, trademark and brand management systems, brand building, consumer product packaging, exhibits, storefront signage and visibility, special event/conference signage and collateral material, digital infographics, presentations, websites and social media marketing.
At TaitDesign® consistent branding, flexible messaging and compelling design are engaged to reach intended audiences quickly and effectively to affect positive change and to bolster recognition.
Douglas Tait, principal of TaitDesign®, has an established history of working with senior-level executive directors and managers to solve business communications requirements. Additionally, I have collaborated on a range of projects with directors of management consulting firms, design firms, advertising agencies, and in-house communications and branding departments.
As principal of TaitDesign®, I am an internationally known design consultant specializing in business and institutional communications.
Using strategic, criteria-based, design principles, client objectives and leading-edge technologies — my services consistently exceed expectations by providing effective solutions to client requirements. As seen in the images and stories below, and the capabilities, products and services page, it's these solutions that result in client successes.
I take a 'systems' approach to design, production and project management from start-to-delivery.
A trademark can last decades and is never seen alone. It is seen in signage, publications, web communications and more. It's just one element of a strategic communications plan for which guidelines are developed and produced to control its usage and to maintain its integrity.
A new publication program or an update of an existing publication to keep your audience informed and interested is also built with this systems approach.
Please use the contact form below to inquire about the services and projects I've shared herein, or to ask what services may be appropriate to solve the many communication requirements for your organization or company.

UNICEF Headquarters, New York
As Senior Brand Design Consultant and Advisor, 2012 – 2016, in the Brand Management Unit (Brand Building Section) my position was to make recommendations to senior management to improve brand compliance and recognition, and to implement those recommendations. • Brand Guidelines Manual updates
• Ancillary Manuals
• Rebranding consultation
• Staff Memorial
• Revised colour palette
• Recommendation of nomenclature system
• Audit/survey of brand use in publications
• 70th anniversary logotype
• 70th anniversary exhibit (1,560 sq.ft.)
• Elevator directory
• Card & Gift Shop visibility
• Internal presentations (PPT & PDF)
• Internal catalogs and interactive forms (PDF)
• Internal publication templates
• Internal reports and manuals
• Recommendation of best-practice procedures

UNICEF – for every child
While working with the Brand Building Team, I was asked to design, support and implement the new identity system and make it available in multiple languages on a worldwide basis in multiple file formats for its roll-out in late-2016 – 2017.
• Financial reports
• Templates for on-demand, user-controlled, database-driven, dynamic publishing for instant PDF publications.
• Conference material
With its presence in developing countries around the globe, the task of UNDP is monumental. Working with the communications director and programme directors, TaitDesign® has assisted these efforts by providing: annual reports, disaster relief material and informational reports and publications for its offices in New York, Geneva and Oslo.
• 2008 Annual Report
• Mine Action division conference material
• Adopt-An-Island recovery campaign

For seven years I supplied creative solutions to the Communications, Compliance, Human Resources and other departments at MetLife's New York headquarters to effectively address and reach its many audiences.
• Human Resources newsletters and publications

Received MetLife's "Outstanding Vendor Award" for the body of work.
Kidder Peabody Properties
This division of General Electric required a flexible publications design program be developed to help raise investment capital for 'project-properties' across the nation.
One prospectus, shown above, was in part responsible for the renovation of the historic Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan. It received the 'Printing Industries of America' design and print award.
New York Telephone
Clean and sober employees are a most valuable resource. New York Telephone's Human Resourses initiated this substance abuse campaign to extend a 'lifeline' to its employees in 1991. The campaign included:
• Corporate letter
The message was a sobering success.
Flexor Sports Training
Working with the principals of a management consulting firm, we recommended a name change, logotype and positioning phrase which better represents the method of 'muscle-memory' training.
The Flexor Golf Fitness Training System is a conditioning program to help golfers maximize their performance through scientifically-proven golf-specific drills.
• Instructional training manuals
• Marketing material
UNDP's Tsunami recovery fundraising campaign (2005 –2007) for the 1,200+ island country of the Maldives including:

• Email promotion and website monthly progress newsletters
• Final report
I didn't design the Parker Hannifin trademark (1975), nor did I write and design the original Identity Guidelines Manual (3-inch thick, 3-ring binder).
However, working with the corporation's senior management and its management consultants, my services have been called upon multiple times to update the original manual and to create manuals for specific projects including trade show displays, presentations and advertising.
Additionally, I was asked to provide a streamlined 20-page Corporate and Marketing Identification Guidelines manual, shown above, to reinforce the use of the identity/brand worldwide.
As a professional investor relations group, Jefferies serves its clientele on many footings. Services included:
• Capabilities brochure
• Corporate luncheon brochure
• Collateral material
Working with the principals of a management consulting firm, we recommended a name change from the Uninterruptable Uptime Users Group (UUUG) to the more appropriate, and easier to read and say, 7x24Exchange. This solution expanded the group's reach, expanded its membership, created regional chapters and provided greater validity to the facilities management arena. 1991 – 2004
• Trademark and positioning phrase
• Online identity guidelines and files
• Website and newsletters
• Semi-annual conference material
• Collateral material
The primary brand of the Franklin Toiletry Company in Manhattan, Barbershop™ of 'new' old-fashioned mens' shaving products (mug and brush) was one of the most exclusive and successful specialty gift lines in the country from the 1970s into the late-1980s.
• Product design
• Consumer packaging
• Product expansion
• Brand building poster
• Product catalogs
The 1984 catalog, shown above, received a 'Print' magazine design award. Barbershop® products are still being sought, bought and traded on eBay® today.

• Visual audit and evaluation
• Identity and nomenclature branding
• Product branding
• Brand guidance
• Web site and web banners
• Seminar and collateral material
United Nations Association
of the USA
For more than ten years I served as the primary design consultant to UNA-USA (NGO) – the nation's largest grassroots foreign policy organization as both critic and supporter of the United States involvement in the United Nations.

• Membership and informational brochures
• Special reports, booklets and publications
• Annual reports
• Advertising and sales material
• Special event material
• Product packaging
Including the visual identities and collateral material for its special programs: Adopt-A-Minefield™ and Model United Nations™.
An international fundraising campaign, created by UNA-USA, with goodwill ambassadors Ms. Heather Mills and Sir Paul McCartney, helped to rid war-torn countries from the leftover scourge of landmines in farmland, family gardens, kitchens, trails to schools and playgrounds. 1999 – 2004
• Marketing and collateral material
• Fundraising event material
The first annual fundraising dinner in June 2001 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles was a red-carpet, star-studded event. It featured Sir Paul McCartney and Paul Simon on stage, with Jay Leno as the MC.

"Just call Douglas, he'll take care of it."
— Executive Communications Director
Every piece of paper, every report, sign, ad, brochure and package with your company’s name or image leaves an indelible impression on your audience. This must be consistent and positive — every time.
Strategic Positioning & Critera Development
Analytical thinking, based on real-world criteria, creates client-specific positioning which is my basis for successful strategic communications design. This proven method translates into increased visibility, sales, trades and awareness.
I concur with the words of Lewis Carroll, 'When you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there.' One must have a solid path to assure success.
Audience-Targeted, Positive Impression
By carefully identifying and targeting client audiences, my services ensure a positive response in the intended marketplace.
Invest in Value
When you have important business requirements to fulfill, turn to experienced, cost-effective, dependable and industry-proven design firms and consultants.
The consistent positive results derived from my services make TaitDesign® a valued resource for many companies and organizations.
Dedication to Success
As principal and creative director of TaitDesign®, I am dedicated to the success of my clients. I listen to my clients' goals and concerns, and then create, produce and deliver visual tools to affect my clients’ diverse audiences.
Bank on Experience
When you call upon my aesthetic and design principles, you're banking on years of professional industry experience and disciplines.
My foremost concern is the success of my clients. However, I also appreciate the recognition of professional peers. I am pleased to have been honored with many design awards over the years for my work in solving clients' visual business challenges.
Of course my favorites are not the awards at all. They are the handwritten letters of thanks from clients. The MetLife "Outstanding Vendor Award" isn't handwritten, but falls into the same category and accompanied with a note from the communications director.
TaitDesign® is a reliable resource built on my hands-on expertise and reputation for delivering clean and crisp, professional design services.
Challenge = Solution
I provide visual solutions to both simple and complex business challenges. Please use the contact form below to contact me today and let's begin a dialogue to discuss what I can do to fulfill your business goals.
"I have worked with Douglas on a number of projects while working for several organizations and always found him to be open, creative and responsive."
